Demand for Nurses in UAE
Shortfall & UAE Locations
Team ezHRD
By 2030, the UAE will require over 33,000 additional nurses and allied health professionals to meet healthcare demands driven by population growth, medical tourism, and an aging population.
The UAE has implemented new recruitment laws to expand the pool of nurses and paramedics, making it easier for foreign-trained professionals to obtain licenses and work in the country.
The UAE comprises 7 Emirates :
Dubai
40% of the UAE’s registered nurses are estimated to work in Dubai
Driven by the presence of world-class hospitals and clinics regulated by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).
The emirate’s multicultural environment and high demand for specialized care attract a diverse pool of expatriate nurses.
Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi, the capital, accounts for roughly 35% of the nursing workforce.
The Health Authority – Abu Dhabi (HAAD) oversees licensing
Abu Dhabi’s focus on expanding healthcare services under Vision 2030 contributes to a high concentration of nurses
Sharjah
Sharjah employs around 10% of the UAE’s nurses.
While smaller than Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Sharjah has growing healthcare facilities, including university hospitals, that recruit expatriate nurses.
Other Emirates (Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain)
The remaining 15% of nurses are distributed across these smaller emirates.
These regions have fewer healthcare facilities, resulting in a lower concentration of nurses.
However, government initiatives to improve healthcare access are increasing demand in these areas.
